Enhancing School Success with Mnemonic Strategies
Mnemonic strategies refer to the systematic process used for the enhancement of our memory. The use of mnemonic strategies lies in developed a better way to accept information to make it easier to remember as well as retrieve at the time of need. Although a number of recalling techniques exist which can be used to retrieve forgotten information, it has been proved by a number of researchers that the way the information has been encoded and fed to the brain is the main consideration behind how well the information is retrieved. Mnemonic strategies are developed to find different ways to relate the newly found information with previous known ones to make memorization easier and convenient. If the connection is strong, the memory will last long in our brain. For instance, if we have to learn the capital of Florida, we can do so by linking Florida with flower and its capital Tallahassee with Television as these words sound alike. After doing this, if we imagine a flower sitting on top of a television, it will become a lot easier to remember the capital city of Florida. Remembering and recalling that the capital of Florida is Tallahassee may ordinarily be quite difficult of a student with learning disorder, but linking it will keywords will make it much simpler. Thus, mnemonic strategies have been found to be exceptionally effective.
