Hi all,

I see that the 3rd course in GMS is about languages and after going through the forums a bit I saw that people were able to do the lesson with a language besides the default Russian. I've been meaning to learn Japanese for a while now, so why not hit two birds with one stone? I'm not a student yet, but one thing I'm wondering is how it would be possible to change the course to Japanese, since the language is based off symbols and Russian off of an alphabet. I would assume there is a different approach when approaching eastern characters. For those that have accomplished this, mind telling how you did it?

thanks

I used the techniques demonstrated with russian for learning japanese, very straight forward but learnt the sounds and meaning of words  first before I even thought to tackle kanji. Learnt hiragana and katakana using the system outlined in 3rd course, it took a little time to get it to reflex, just treated them like FCs, but learning them was a breeze.

I did this as i was learning a japanese evening class and also prepared for (and passed) my japanese exam using this method. Durng my orals my japanese teacher was really impressed with my speaking ability, told me i was very expressive <img src="/kernel/lib/bbcode/images/smiles/2.gif" alt="Well" />
